1. WHAT Does it do ?

  • uses first line of the excel file to create sql columnss
  • uses filename to create table
  • uses each following row (from 2 to N) to create inserts.
  • does not actually perform the sql : please copy and paste to your favorite sql admin interface.

2. WHAT DOESN'T IT DO (YET)

  • detect field types (numeric, text, longtext, unique)

3. Xls2Mysql requirements : you'll need php > 4.0.6

4. HOW TO USE xls2mysql :

  • After payment has been confirmed (ses below), you'll get unlimited access to the xsl2mysql download adress.
  • get the package 'xls2mysql.zip' and unzip it to a web folder that has PHP
  • run the xls2mysql.php page within your browser
  • Upload the files or test from the sample xls files from the file list tab
  • if you upload files, check that php has read/write rights on the xls folder.

dude comments from here : 		I have a 15 meg file and unfortunately this program poops out after 30 secs. Is there something I can get that will handle the conversion of such a large file?

Them comments from Amsterdam : 		Found that MySql does not mind spaces in Field names, heads look even beter, so just loosing the hyphen would work.

it Almost works! there are 2 little things to change and the sql is rendered OK

do not have skill enough to change myself ,

1. all spaces in excel COLUMN HEADER names are changed to an hyphen - in the mysql FIELD names The sql does not like that

better change the spaces into underscores as in Field_Names
thus create table tblname ( field_name varchar(255));

2. last character is choped off from every cellvalue
all header cells and all cells from row1 to eof mis the last character
(i mean data vallue stream read out got chopped off 1 )

Bustergut comments from London : 		After I worked out that you have to USE a database first it worked OK. Had trouble with large files though well below 2MB. Kept getting a time out after 30s from a file within xls2mysql. (.inc) Good stuff though and await next release.
